Cesarean scar massage treatment

There are many reasons to include your cesarean scar in a massage therapy treatment.

As much as our culture has taught us to believe that a cesarean surgery is not a big deal. If you ask your body, it would tell you that it is a BIG deal! Many layers of tissue are surgically opened and stitched back together which means that there are many layers of scar tissue, not just what you see on the surface.

Scar tissue is a very tough and fibrous tissue that, once formed, will attach to fascia as well as other internal tissues and organs as it heals. Scar tissue also forms in a non linear pattern, unlike healthy fascia in the body which is typically lined up so it can easily move back and forth over other tissues etc.

The form and healing of scar tissue can have dramatic effects on things such as pain, internal and external movement and mobility, body acceptance, organ function, pelvic floor function, urination frequency, sacroiliac joint function, sexual discomfort and many of these troubles won't necessarily show up until years after surgery.

Cesarean Scar Massage

It is safe to treat a cesarean scar after you have been cleared by your doctor or midwife to do so. Typically this is after 6-8 weeks post surgery. The incision and scar must be FULLY healed before beginning massage treatment on the area.

There is no extra cost for cesarean scar massage treatment, it can be included in a regular treatment plan and this is something that would be discussed prior to starting treatment.
